General Solution to Excessive Tightening of Stainless Steel Bolts

After being bitten, stainless steel bolts can only be dismantled destructively, which is time-consuming, labor-intensive, and uneconomical. Therefore, it is particularly important to prevent stainless steel bolts from being too tight.

Common methods for prevention and measures for tightening stainless steel bolts:

(1) Match bolts with different materials and nuts. 201 nuts cannot meet the anti-corrosion requirements when the anti-corrosion requirements are high, while 316 stainless steel cannot meet the high-strength requirements due to its soft material when the fastening strength requirements are high.

(2) Improve the performance of stainless steel bolts, such as adding coatings on the threads of bolts and nuts to prevent jamming. However, this method is expensive and currently rarely used.

(3) The thread shall be coated with lubricant such as Molybdenum disulfide, grease, etc., which shall be evenly filled with the thread bottom and cover the bolt head for about 10~15mm. After the practice of system engineering management, this method can only have a certain impact on the initial locking of stainless steel bolts. When locking again, there is a high probability that the problem will occur due to over tightening, and the use of a lubricant mainly causes serious pollution, which cannot be directly used to develop a clean working environment.

(4) When tightening, screw the nut or bolt into 2-3 threads by hand, and then tighten with a torque wrench or socket wrench. The application of force should be uniform, and the tightening direction should be perpendicular to the axial direction of the bolt. Try not to use Adjustable spanner or electric Impact wrench. This method is inefficient and labor-intensive, especially when there are a large number of stainless steel bolts in the project.
