Core Application Scenarios

In the world of robotics, fasteners are the "silent heroes." They determine the rigidity of the structure, the precision of motion, and the service life of the machine. From humanoid robot hands to heavy industrial arms, FASTO provides specialized solutions.

Position / Module Role of Fastener Key Requirements
Joint Modules / Reducers Withstands frequent starts, high torque, and alternating loads. High Strength (10.9/12.9), Anti-loosening, Fatigue resistance.
Arm Structure (Alu/Carbon) Rigid body splicing. Lightweight + Sufficient clamping force, Prevention of galvanic corrosion.
Motor / Driver Mounting Torque transmission + Positioning. High precision fit, Vibration resistance, Thermal surface contact.
Sensors / PCB Assemblies Micro-precision fixation. M0.8~M3 Micro screws, Non-interference materials, Insulation.
Outer Shell / Protection Environmental sealing. Waterproof, Rust-proof (Stainless steel/Coated screws).

Robot Fastener Selection Principles

01

Tension vs. Shear

Fasteners should primarily handle axial tension (pre-load). Avoid letting screws bear primary shear forces. Use dowel pins and cylinder fits for positioning, and let friction from pre-load transmit torque.

02

Strength Grades

For joint flanges and gearboxes, Grade 12.9 Alloy Steel (DIN 912) is mandatory. For general frames, 10.9 or 8.8 suffices. Use A4-70 Stainless for wet/coastal environments.

03

Torque Management

Reliability depends on torque control. Use precision torque wrenches. For robotics, a cross-tightening sequence is vital to ensure even pressure distribution across flanges.

Common Types in Modern Robotics

Socket Head Screw

Socket Head Cap Screws: The workhorse of robot joints. High torque capacity in compact spaces.

Grub Screw

Grub Screws: Used for shaft-hub positioning. Must be paired with pins for high-torque paths.

Lock Nut

Nylon Lock Nuts: Essential for vibration resistance in mobile/humanoid robots.

Quality Assurance & Testing

To ensure stable and high-quality products, we conduct rigorous in-house QC at multiple production stages under ISO 9001 standards.

Testing 1 Testing 2 Testing 3 Testing 4

We prioritize structural reliability by providing detailed technical reports for each order, covering critical metrics such as tensile strength, torque, and coating thickness to minimize risks like hydrogen embrittlement.

The Future of Robotics Fastening

Miniaturization

Humanoid hands and sensors now require M0.5 to M2 fasteners with tolerances in the micron range. FASTO is leading the way in micro-precision manufacturing.

Lightweighting

The use of Titanium alloys and high-strength small-spec fasteners allows robots to shed weight without compromising structural integrity.

Smart Fasteners

Embedded sensing capabilities in fasteners will soon allow robots to monitor their own joint health and pre-load decay in real-time.
